The pupils greeted him cheerfully, sang a song or recited a poem or story to him. St. Nicholas was delighted with the effort the children had made and answered a few questions about being St. Nicholas.
Of course, he didn't come empty-handed: At the end, he gave each child a chocolate Santa Claus.
