Over the past few weeks, the pupils had focused in particular on Goal No. 6 Clean water and sanitation and Goal No. 3 Health and well-being. At the beginning of the project, the children had many questions about this: How much drinking water is there on earth? Why doesn't everyone have access to clean water? How is dirty water purified? Why do we need clean water? And what do we need water for in everyday life? The focus of the visit was therefore on water-related topics. Among other things, the areas of water treatment and water transportation were presented.
After a warm welcome in the premises of the local branch on Vereinsstraße with hot chocolate for the children, Mr. Ewering told them about the tasks of the THW. Mr. Heupink then showed the children photos of his assignment abroad to build wells in Somalia in 1993 and explained why and how the wells were cleaned and modernized. Open questions from the children were answered, so that all the impressions could be well classified
Finally, the children were allowed to take a close look at the THW's large emergency vehicle and sit in it for a test drive.
The THW saw the children off with flashing blue lights and sirens.
The pupils took away from the visit in particular how important clean water is for health and well-being and the role that technology, teamwork, prevention and relief efforts play in this. The Grüne-Aue School would like to thank the local association for the visit.
In the coming weeks, the topic will be continued with the design and presentation of "Tips for saving water".
