Opening of the first reading club

Together with the Gronau public library and the Grüne-Aue school, Stiftung Lesen is opening the first reading club in Gronau. In the reading clubs, children can take advantage of supervised leisure activities that increase their motivation to read without the pressure of grades. The clubs thus open up particularly low-threshold access to reading and make use of the so-called "peer group effect", as they offer children space to support each other and thus motivate them to read regularly.

In addition to extensive media equipment, the volunteer supervisors of the reading clubs can participate in a comprehensive training program. This makes a decisive contribution to the successful establishment and sustainable further development of the reading clubs.

The reading club in Gronau offers children an extracurricular learning environment to read together, play and be creative with different media. Currently, two reading clubs per week can be offered on the premises of the Grüne-Aue-Schule: on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2.00 pm to 3.30 pm. The reading clubs start from the 11th calendar week (from March 10, 2025) and are prepared and supervised by volunteers.

Children aged 6-10 years can take part in this weekly program. Ms. Kammholz (Gronau public library a.kammholz@gronau.de) and Ms. Borninkhof (Grüne-Aue-Schule m.borninkhof@ga.schule.gronau.de) will accept registrations.

We are still looking for volunteer reading mentors for the reading club. If you are interested in joining the reading club, please contact Ms. Kammholz or Ms. Borninkhof.
