Class 2a

A yellow sign that reads "Welcome to Elephant Class."

Soft toy elephant

Elmo the elephant is the mascot of the elephant class and accompanies the children in class 1a throughout their time at school. Class 1a is not only called elephant class because elephants are particularly clever animals and have excellent memory skills, but above all because elephants are considered to be very social animals. Just as elephants comfort each other and look after the weaker members of their herd, the children in elephant class learn to be considerate of each other, respect each other and help each other.

From everyday school life

Class representative of the 2a class

In science lessons, we thought about what a class representative actually is, what tasks they have and what makes a good class representative. The elephant class elected Ben and Marinell (center) in a secret ballot. Luca and Aria are the representatives.

Start of the second school year

The children in the elephant class have made a good start to the new school year and are now proud to be second graders at Grüne-Aue-Schule. As always, the elephants' school day starts with free learning and play time, during which they do puzzles, build things, play and write.

We are currently working with shapes in math lessons. The children have laid out Christmas figures with the shapes triangle and square and imaginatively invented their own figures.

Art and culture - visit to the van Almsick Gallery

Children look at a picture

On December 13, we visited the von Almsick Gallery in the center of Gronau-Epe. In small groups, we discovered the watercolor paintings on display and learned lots of exciting things about the technique of watercolor painting.

Then we had the opportunity to create our own pictures with acrylic paint with a real artist.

We painted our class elephant as a community picture.

Advent

Child sits at the teacher's desk

During Advent, we start each day by singing a Christmas carol, reading a Christmas story and drawing lots for our self-made Advent calendar. Each Advent calendar bag contains a voucher, among other things.

Luciano received a voucher that allowed him to work at the teacher's desk for an hour.

Our Advent mornings are particularly cozy thanks to the candlelight of the self-glued glasses.

We do handicrafts for Christmas

Advent calendar of the class

On December 1, with the support of many parents, we spent a whole day making candle jars, striped trees, girladen, witch's houses and much more while enjoying the delicious smell of waffles. In art class, we are creating even more Christmassy works of art to decorate our school.
