Fun, work and history. This year's SV trip was once again a complete success. Our destination was Arnhem, a lively city of 100,000 inhabitants on the Lower Rhine, surrounded by nature. Arnhem also had a lot to offer culturally. One of the most famous sights is the Eusebius Church, for example. It has dominated the cityscape for over 500 years and has been through a lot. Inside, the church is magnificently decorated in gold. A huge organ towers above the entrance gate, but unfortunately it needs to be renovated due to water damage. Another highlight are the glass cabins at the top of the outer wall of the tower. At a height of one hundred meters, you can float above the city centre of Arnhem. You can look straight down. Not for the faint-hearted.
Our youth hostel was located just outside the city center. It was about half an hour's walk from the main train station to the hostel. Arnhem was unusually steep for the Netherlands. You could really describe the walk to the youth hostel as a hike. The "Stay okay" youth hostel itself was very cozy. Typical for the Netherlands: there was a delicious breakfast. The Dutch crumble was a must.
Of course, we also worked a lot again. In the cozy courtyard of the youth hostel, we have once again come up with some exciting projects for the next school year. Among other things, we want to offer new school sweaters and drinking bottles. This time in a new design. We were also approached by a few pupils about a difficult situation in the toilets. Here, too, we want to work towards solutions. The SV is also involved in the upcoming traveling exhibition. The touring exhibition "Nicht böse gemeint" ("No offense meant") is about everyday discrimination and how we can take action against it. Some people from the SV will also accompany you through the exhibition, in line with the motto "Students for students".
But we were also on the trail of Arnhem's history. During the Second World War, shortly after D-Day, a significant and cruel battle took place here, the Battle of Arnhem for the Arnhem Bridge. The bridge and the adjoining museum are still a memorial against war and remind us of the atrocities of the Second World War.
All in all, we can look back on a successful SV trip. We have grown into a stronger team ourselves and were able to plan a lot. We look forward to helping to shape the school for you next year and implementing great projects. (TvD)
